About the school
A quiet room for practising out loud
DQA Training makes recorded video courses on the speaking voice and on presenting: breath, pace, clarity, meetings, interviews, talks and the camera.
The school is run by DQA TRAINING LTD, a company registered in England and based in Stafford. When you buy a course, that is who you buy it from, and the people who answer your email or the chat work for it.
Why recorded
The voice improves between lessons
Practice happens on your own
A voice changes through repetition: the same sentence, said again with a different breath or pause. Short recorded lessons give you something exact to repeat on the way to work, before a meeting or in the evening.
You can watch it again
Before an interview or a talk you can go back to the one lesson you need — the warm-up, the opening, the answer to a hard question — instead of trying to remember what was said in a session weeks ago.
Your pace, your hours
Courses are streamed and stay open for 18 months from the day access is sent. Take a course in a week before a deadline, or one lesson a day over a season.
How a course is made
Four stages, in this order
-
Plan
We start from one situation — a meeting, an interview, a talk, a call — and the few things a speaker has to do differently in it. Anything that does not change what you do on the day is left out.
-
Script
Each lesson is written out before filming: what you will see, what to try, and what to listen for when you play yourself back. Examples are written to be spoken, not read.
-
Film
Lessons are filmed in a quiet studio with clean sound, so you can hear the small differences in breath, pace and stress that the course is about.
-
Edit and practise
The footage is cut into short lessons of a few minutes each. After every lesson there is a practice task: something to say, record on your phone and listen back to before you move on.
What we do not do
Said plainly, before you buy
- No live coaching. The courses are recorded. Nobody watches your practice recordings or sends feedback on them; the checklists in each lesson are there so you can judge your own playback.
- No qualification. A course is not a regulated or accredited qualification of any kind.
- Not therapy. The courses are not speech therapy and not treatment for voice disorders or anxiety. If your voice hurts, stays hoarse or fails, see a GP or a speech and language therapist.
- No downloads. Lessons are streamed to your browser on any device; they are not files to keep.
